2023 Cabernet Franc

The Vineyard: 

Our Pomum Konnowac Estate Vineyard is an older, nearly forgotten vineyard planted 35 years ago in the western half of the Yakima Valley. It was planted in 1987 and since 2020 it has been USDA Certified Organic. Although we have been working quietly with Konnowac vineyard for many years, it is recently after hard work and fine tuning that we finally showcase it exclusively on all our Pomum Wines. 

The Vintage

A cool spring delayed bud break by a couple of weeks, but warmer weather in May quickly moved vine development ahead of schedule. Low yields helped the fruit ripen early, and harvest began in September. Picking progressed steadily through mid-October, allowing us to harvest each block when the fruit was ready.

The Wine

Grown at our certified-organic Konnowac Estate Vineyard, this small-production Cabernet Franc is a savory, structured expression of the variety. Dark plum and cherry lead into layers of graphite, dried sage and a subtle note of fresh jalapeño, while 18 months in a new French oak puncheon adds cedar and vanilla. Bright acidity keeps the wine lively, with firm, fine-grained tannins providing plenty of backbone. Give it a generous decant if opening now, or tuck it away for a few years and let those tannins settle in.
